Psychoville
As previously mentioned on this Blog, there has been an enjoyable spate of comedy programmes peppering the BBC schedules of late. From the gloriously scathing rants of STEWART LEE’S COMEDY VEHICLE to the small-scale and observational OUTNUMBERED, there has been much to satisfy the comedy connosieur.
And now along comes PSYCHOVILLE. I have watched the first two episodes, and I must say I think it’s brilliant. I was never quite satisfied with the third series of THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, although the second was a thing of sheer wonder; and now here are two of the LEAGUE (Shearsmith and Pemberton) presenting us with a cast of weird and distasteful characters in some hilarious and disturbing storylines – all bound together by a series of mysterious letters . . .
Anyway, PSYCHOVILLE is worthy of particular mention because it is the first sitcom I can think of that has seeded the internet with additional content which masquerades as genuine. In other words, the fictional world of PSYCHOVILLE stretches out of the series and across the Web, via Youtube channels and dummy sites.
Just like the world of Konkerbury!
Yep, the BBC have finally caught up with me. And if you are enjoying the PSYCHOVILLE series, and you like the idea of spinoff websites (which, seeing as you’re here on the Konkerbury Blog, I imagine you do) then you might like to have a goosey-gander at the following . . .
